The Utah State University Honors Program admits students based on application. Students are asked to:

1. Complete essay #1
2. Complete either essay #2, #3, #4 or #5 
3. Attach an unofficial college transcript

*Each essay must be 250-500 words, typed and copied & pasted into the fields provided below

Essay#1:  Please address all of the following questions:

• Why are you interested in joining Honors?
• What are your educational goals (you may include your major and why you chose it, but we are particularly interested in your post-graduation goals, such as grad school, law school, etc.)?
• How will Honors help you meet these goals?
• How did you hear about the Honors Program?

Essay #2:
You return to your room in the residence hall next fall, and on the floor just outside the door you find a hard hat, a copy of The Complete Works of Shakespeare, and one additional object. In addition to revealing the identity of the third object, explain how the hard hat, the book, and the third object got there and their significance.

Essay #3:
What is the big question you like to think about or the most important issue you would like to engage while you are at USU? Why do you think this issue is important, and why should you study it? What kinds of knowledge and skills do you think you will need to further and deepen your study of this big question? This is not so much about an academic field or discipline, nor is it about your long-range plans; rather, we want to know about what intrigues you most deeply.

Essay #4:
J.K. Rowling said, "It takes a great deal of courage to stand up to your enemies, but even more to stand up to your friends." Describe a time when you stood up to your friends.

Essay #5:
Complete the sentence: "Wouldn't it be interesting if..."
