HSC Offices

Positions of the Honors Student Council:

President

The President coordinates the council and represents the Honors Program in campus forums, including the Honors Advisory Board; plans and chairs Honors Council meetings; is involved in all program planning; acts as liaison between the Director and the students; appoints officers as necessary for the functioning of the program.

Executive Secretary

The HSC Executive Secretary facilitates communication among members of the Council and between the Council and Honors Program Administration. He or she prepares meeting agendas and keeps meeting minutes. The secretary also assists the President in his or her duties as called upon by the President.

Executive Council Members

Historian and Marketing Officer

The Historian collects and organizes Honors Program publicity (newspaper articles, etc.) and is responsible for photographing Honors events as well as serving the other members of the Council by preparing print media for HSC sponsored events. He or she works with the HSC Executive Secretary to prepare and disseminate electronic and print advertising. The Marketing V.P. also acts as the Council's liaison with the Statesman and other on- and off-campus media groups.

Service Officer

The Service Officer plans and executes HSC sponsored service projects. He or she also facilitates Honors student participation in other community service initiatives.

Treasurer

The Treasurer will be responsible for tracking the annual HSC budget and coordinating expenditures with the Honors Program Coordinator. He or she will be the delegated purchasing card user and will be responsible for all CSCO funding requests.

Honors Fellow Liaison

The Honors Fellow Liaison will coordinate the dissemination of information between the Honors Fellows and the HSC. The applicant should either be currently serving as an Honors Fellow or have served in the past. He or she should plan on attending Honors Fellow events and training in order to bring information back to the HSC.

Honors Mentor Liaison

The Honors Mentor Liaison will coordinate the dissemination of information between the Honors Mentors and the HSC. The applicant should either be currently serving as an Honors Mentor or have served in the past. He or she should plan on attending Honors Mentor events and training in order to bring information back to the HSC.

Council Members

Council members must serve on the HSC for one year before becoming eligible to serve as Council Officers. Council Members will attend HSC meetings and assist the HSC President and Council Officers in program planning and implementation. First year students are eligible to apply for Council Member positions.

Responsibilities for all Honors Student Council members:

  • Nominate an eligible professor for the annual Last Lecture and encourage other Honors students to submit nominations. Serve as a member of the Last Lecture selection committee;
  • Act as an ambassador for Honors at all times;
  • Meet weekly throughout the year with Honors office staff. These meetings are brief and designed to discuss aspects of the Honors Program. From time to time the Honors Program will ask Honors Student Council members for input on specific components of the program;
  • Represent Honors at various events throughout the year, including Day on the Quad, Major Fair, and Scholars Day, and various Open Houses;
  • Organize, participate in, and recruit other Honors students to participate in Honors socials and service events. Publicize Honors events, including monthly socials.
