Honors Seminars

Honors students working toward the Honors in University Studies portion of an Honors degree are required to earn 3 seminar credits. HONR 2000 and HONR 2100 are required during the first and second semester for freshman. Honors offers a selection of courses which students may take to complete their seminar requirement. You may read about the Honors seminars below.

HONR 2000, Scholars Forum (1 credit online) Prof. Joyce Kinkead, Associate Vice President for Research

Scholars Forum seeks to de-mystify the university experience and give Utah State's best first-year scholars the cultural, political, and social capital necessary not only to navigate the system successfully but also to excel. This class provides top scholars with a direct link to Central Administration via the Associate Vice President for Research. Students learn about opportunities to participate in hands-on learning, such as undergraduate research, and to compete for nationally and internationally prestigious scholarships. Scholars Forum also serves as gateway for official entry into the Honors Program.

You may read a more detailed introduction to Scholars Forum and the structure of the online classroom environment here.

HONR 2100, Honors Inquiry (1 credit)

HONR 2100 is offered as a major-specific one-credit seminar, taken during an Honors student's second semester at USU. Students will be enrolled in the seminar that most closely fits their probable major. There are two related goals for Honors Inquiry: to introduce you to the nature of inquiry and to assist you in planning your undergraduate education so that you will graduate with Honors. Each course section contains an identical Honors "core" of activities, including meeting with the appropriate Departmental Honors Advisor, developing a Departmental Honors Plan of Study, and an introduction to undergraduate research programs.

HONR 2200, Honors Enrichment (.5 credit, repeatable), Mary Heers, Honors faculty member and Instructor in Theatre Arts.

Honors Enrichment is an opportunity for Honors students to enhance their academic experience by attending five cultural and arts events and reflecting on them in small group setting. Class will meet directly after the performances. Instructor will initially contact class by e-mail.

Grading is based on attendance, participation, and written work.
