Eligibility for Acceptance:
Qualified students will have cumulative GPAs of at least 3.50 and will have declared a major in the department.
Program of Study:
The 15-credit requirement for Honors in Mathematics or Statistics is met by successfully completing contracts in the following courses:
- 6 credit hours in upper-division courses are to be taken within the department
- 3 credit hours of Honors credit to be taken under Senior Thesis/Project (Math 5950 or Stat 5950)
- 6 additional upper-division credits from within the department or from outside the department, with the Departmental Honors Advisor's approval; Math 1220H may be substituted for 3 of the upper-division credits and is highly recommended
Requirements for Completion of Degree:
The successful candidate will graduate with a cumulative GPA of 3.3 and a GPA of 3.5 in upper-division major requirements and Honors course work and will complete and present in a public forum an Honors thesis/project. Many students have found it helpful to relate the courses taken on Honors contract to the final thesis/project.
