Eligibility for Acceptance:
Qualified students will have cumulative GPAs of at least 3.30, a 3.50 in Chemistry courses, and will have declared a major in Chemistry.

Program of Study:
The 15-credit requirement for Honors in Chemistry is met by successfully completing contracts in the following courses:

  • 6 credits in two of the following:
        CHEM 2320 Organic Chemistry II (Sp), 4 cr
        CHEM 3070 (QI) Physical Chemistry (Sp), 3 cr
        CHEM 5640 Instrumental Analysis (Sp), 3 cr
        CHEM 5700 General Biochemistry I (F), 3 cr
  • 3-6 credits in courses numbered 3000 or above in Chemistry or related science subjects, as appropriate. Three credits may be taken in a graduate chemistry course (6000 level or above).
  • 3-6 credits in Chem 4800, Research Problems
  • 2 credits in Chem 4990 Undergraduate Seminar

Requirements for Completion of Degree:
The successful candidate will graduate with cumulative GPAs of at least 3.30, a 3.50 in Chemistry courses, and a GPA of 3.50 in upper-division major requirements and Honors coursework and will complete and present in a public forum an Honors thesis/project. Many students have found it helpful to relate the courses taken on Honors contract to the final thesis/project.
