Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning

Eligibility for Acceptance:
Qualified students will have a cumulative USU GPA of at least 3.50 and will be a matriculated student in the upper-division courses of the major.

Program of Study:
The 15-credit requirement for Honors in LAEP is met by successfully completing contracts in the following courses:

  • 9-12 credits must be taken inside the department to include:
    • 3 credits Honors thesis to be completed through: LAEP 4120/4130 Emerging Areas in Landscape Architecture (2 credits) and LAEP 4900 Special Problems (1 credit)
    • 2 credits to be taken in Readings Seminars (LAEP 6910 and 6930)
  • The balance of Honors credits (3-6) may be taken outside the department, with the approval of the Departmental Honors Advisor

*Nothing lower than a B grade is acceptable in courses in which an Honors contract is being completed.
**Students who fail to complete a contract, once entered into with a faculty member, will be placed on academic probation for one semester.

Requirements for Completion of Degree:
The successful candidate will graduate with a cumulative USU GPA of 3.50 and a GPA of 3.5 in upper-division major requirements and Honors course work and will complete and present in a public forum an Honors thesis/project. Many students have found it helpful to relate the courses taken on Honors contract to the final thesis/project.

  • LAEP 3300 (4 cr.) Advanced Computer Applications in Landscape Architecture
  • LAEP 3500 (4 cr.) Planting Design I
  • LAEP 3610 (4 cr.) Landscape Construction II
  • LAEP 3700 (3 cr.) City and Regional Planning
  • LAEP 4100 (5 cr.) Urban Theory, Systems, and Design
  • LAEP 4120 (2 cr.) Emerging Areas in Landscape Architecture
  • LAEP 4130 (2 cr.) Emerging Areas in Landscape Architecture II
  • LAEP 6100 (5 cr.) Regional Landscape Planning
  • LAEP 4900 (1 cr.) Special Problems
  • LAEP 6910 (1 cr.) Reading Seminar I
  • LAEP 6930 (1 cr.) Reading Seminar II
