Meet the Honors Mentors

2012-2013 Honors Mentors

Whitni Gardner

Psychology
Junior

Hello dearest Aggies! This will be year two for me as an Honors Mentor! I am a fan of people, hence being a psychology major, and I love picking people's brains, trying to figure out all of their wonderful characteristics and personalities. Music is a passion of mine, specifically singing, as well as reading just about anything! I love taking walks, hiking, cloud watching, star gazing, and playing in the rain! Oh and I have an adorable, charming laugh that basically everyone finds entertaining because it is filled with the melodious sound of snorts! I am also a pro napper; I can fall asleep anywhere! I'm looking forward to a fun-filled year with lots of smiles and happiness!

Taylor Halversen

Communication Studies
Junior

I love being around people and just having fun! I like to perform, anything from piano and singing, to acting and public speaking. I enjoy learning and expanding my perspectives of the world, and I hope it is helping me to become a more well rounded person. I am obsessed with all things Irish, and I am always willing to try something new!

Hi friends! When you manage to drag me away from my textbooks and
comfy purple couches, I enjoy begin outside. Nothing beats the
sunshine, a picnic blanket, and a good book. I also enjoy spending my
time shopping, doing gymnastics, and spending time with others. My all
time favorite thing is to go road tripping; whether spontaneous or planned, I'm
always ready to be part of the fun. I'm a true blue Aggie, and I'm
excited to show you all the reasons why I love USU!!!

Dylan Kay Lasson

Technical Writing & Graphic Design
Junior

Hey guys! I can't wait to get to know you and help you out with Honors. You have made the smart choice of becoming an Aggie, and trust me, it is awesome. A little tidbit about me: I grew up in the picturesque ranching community of Birdseye which is nestled 26 miles up Spanish Fork Canyon in Utah County. If you don't know where Birdseye is, don't worry, nobody does. My hobbies include watching movies (and movie trailers), reading, doing jigsaw puzzles (Nerdy fact: I once completed an 18,000 piece puzzle), listening to music, and hanging out with friends. Feel free to contact me about with any questions. Go Aggies!

Karen Tew

Public Health Education - PreMed
Sophomore

Hi all! I grew up in the middle-of-nowhere, Idaho, and consequently - my favorite food is mashed potatoes. When I'm not studying or working, I like to bike, play volleyball, go geocaching, and play the piano. I have a very smart pet beta fish named Stick, and I think that USU Hockey is the best thing on this planet next to Nancy Drew books, Ken Jennings (that guy from Jeopardy) and Guitar Hero. I'm looking forward to getting to know you this year!

Lauren Page

Cellular and Molecular Biology
Senior

I am originally from Colorado and have truly loved my experience at Utah State. I love to laugh and have fun; I am a firm believer that laughter can help tremendously with any stressful situation. On a nice day, you can almost always find me outside with either a book or a bottle of nail polish. I am a huge fan of the TV show Glee and any sort of dessert with chocolate in it. I am looking forward to getting to know all of you!

Alysha Waters

Biology
Senior

I was born here in Logan and have lived somewhere in Utah for most of my life. I love the summertime because of all the bonfires, boating, camping, and swimming I get to do. Currently on my bucket list is learning how to break-dance and skateboard...so if you have any of those skills help me out! If you ever need a friend to watch Castle or Once Upon a Time I am your person. I look forward to meeting all of you; we have a great year ahead of us!

Victoria Rasmussen

International Business & Economics
Sophomore

Hello! I love to read, cook, and am a total workout junkie. I also love to travel and learn about other cultures. I’m pretty girly when it comes to clothes, but I am a southern girl and love to watch and play football. I love learning about a wide range of stuff and I always love a good conversation so feel free to talk to me whenever!

Sara Calicchia

ADVS, Bioveterinary Science - PreVet
Sophomore

If you can’t pronounce my last name it is because I am Italian (well, I was born in New Mexico, but everyone on my dad’s side was born and raised in Italy). I have a passion for all animals but I am particularly fond of horses. I am a proud member of the Utah State Equestrian Team (Go Aggies!), traveling to various states for competition. When I am not at the barn, I am usually volunteering at a Veterinary Clinic, nose deep in a book, or watching Friends (I have all ten seasons memorized). I love Utah State and am happy to serve as an Honors Mentor this year!

Rebekah Fullerton

Mechanical Engineering
Sophomore

Hello! I go by my nickname Beka. I was born and raised in Chandler, AZ which is in the Phoenix metroarea and the Valley of the Sun. I love hiking, camping, playing sports, doing puzzles, movies, spending time with people, and many other things. My most recent hike was to the top of Humphrey's Peak and I can now claim to have hiked Arizona's tallest mountain. I especially love racquetball since I joined the USU racquetball club team last semester. I love USU and had a great Freshman year here!

Christie Bunnell

Human Movement Science - Pre Physical Therapy
Sophomore

Hi, my name is Christie Bunnell. This is my 2nd year here at USU studying Pre-Physical Therapy. I love every moment of my time at USU, but I also love to do other things. I love to swim on USU club team, water ski at Lake Powell, mentor youth in the community, cook and eat delicious food, rock climb up Logan Canyon, and travel around the world. Something interesting about me is that I spent the summer doing humanitarian work in Thailand. If I’m a little bit quirky and don’t remember to drive on the right side of the road you can blame it on Thailand.

Sean Bedingfield

Biological Engineering
Sophomore

I am a Cache Valley native with a love for cooking, dancing, scuba diving, people watching, hiking, and "making science". I want to be rich and famous when I grow up, but I will always love the spot where the sagebrush grows!

Kayla Arrington

Communication Studies
Junior

I am from West Valley City, Utah and did theatre and choir in high school. I used to be a Civil Engineer major, but am now pursuing Communication Studies. I love to read fantasy books, especially Brandon Sanderson, and my favorite tv show is Doctor Who. I have worked at Bear Lake Aquatics Base with the Boy Scouts for three summers now, both as Assistant Commissioner and Nature Director. I mention this because I have done and seen some wicked awesome things at camp. Also, ask me to tie a safety knot!

Hesper Kohler

Environmental Studies
Senior

Oregon, Logan, and Fiji are all places that I call home. I love to rock climb up Logan Canyon, eat with my hands (a habit I picked up studying abroad in Fiji), go bonfire-ing, read novels, kayak, and listen to musicals. I love being with people and I am always game to go on an adventure up Logan Canyon!

Madalyn Page

Biology
Sophomore

Aside from Logan, Evergreen, Colorado is a smallish town that I like to call home. Having spent most of my life in the Rocky Mountains, I enjoy outdoorsy activities that include hiking, camping, skiing, and spontaneous explorations with friends and family. I also love traveling around the country and on occasion (i.e. when I can afford it) outside of it. My guilty pleasures include marathon days of watching Hart of Dixie or Gossip Girl and any and all forms of Starbucks drinks. If you have any random facts about monkeys, tell me them because I’m a little bit obsessed! Despite my enthusiasm for primates my favorite animal will always be my seven-year-old golden retriever puppy that I adore.

Ashley Calder

I love to play soccer, volleyball, and ultimate frisbee. I LOVE to dance and sing, but most of all, I love to laugh and smile! It's a great cure for stress! :) I really enjoy making new friends and resolving concerns.

Brittany Benson

English
Sophomore

I like to write, read, dance, and sing. I have an irrational fear of stone angels and I love to watch Doctor Who and BBC Sherlock. I hope to one day become a librarian or a linguist...or both!

Matt Munsee

Hey there! I am a small town kid (Mountain Green, UT) lost in the great big city of Logan!! I love to ride the sand dunes, motorcycles, sing/play the piano, and learn. I speak Portuguese and Spanish, one of which I learned while living in Mozambique, Africa. I enjoy everything from musicals/theater, and running, to ping-pong, long-boarding, and my favorite band Incubus. I love school.
