Art 

Eligibility for Acceptance:
Qualified students will have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and must have been accepted to the BFA program. When they meet these criteria, they should meet with the Departmental Honors Advisor to complete a Departmental Honors Plan of Study.

Program of Study:
The 15-credit requirement for Honors in Art may be met in the following ways:

  • 6 credits of upper-division Art History with an Honors contract
  • 6 credits of upper-division course work in the emphasis area or from outside the department, taken with an Honors contract
  • 2 credits of Art 4910 along with 1 credit of HONR 4900, senior thesis/project.

*Nothing lower than a B grade is acceptable in courses in which an Honors contract is being completed.
**Students who fail to complete a contract, once entered into with a faculty member, will be placed on academic probation for one semester.

Requirements for Completion of Degree:
The successful candidate will graduate with a cumulative GPA of 3.5, as well as a GPA of 3.5 in upper-division major requirements and Honors coursework, and will complete and present in a public forum an Honors project/thesis. Many students have found it helpful to relate the courses taken on Honors contract to the final thesis/project.

 

Art History

Eligibility for Acceptance:
Qualified students will have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and must have completed the foundation classes for the concentration. When they meet these criteria, they should meet with the Departmental Honors Advisor to complete a Departmental Honors Plan of Study.

There are two tracks that lead to the concentration in Art History, one that focuses exclusively on the discipline and a second that is interdisciplinary. The student should consult with an Art History advisor to decide which track to pursue.

Program of Study:
For either track, students must complete 15 credits of upper-division coursework under Honors contracts to be eligible for Departmental Honors.

Track One

  • 12 credits upper-division (3000 and higher) Art History with an Honors contract
  • 1 credit HONR 4900 taken in conjunction with 2 credits ART 4920H (independent study for Honors thesis, taken with an Honors contract)

*Nothing lower than a B grade is acceptable in courses in which an Honors contract is being completed.

Track Two

  • 9 credits upper-division Art History with an Honors contract
  • 3 credits upper-division coursework in student's special field from outside department, by Departmental Honors Advisor's approval, with an Honors contract
  • 1 credit HONR 4900 taken in conjunction with 2 credits ART 4920H (independent study for Honors thesis, taken with an Honors contract)
