Announcements

  • Honors would like to congratulate Jodie Barker-Tvedtnes who was selected as an Outstanding Student for Undergraduate Research by the Society of Physics Students. As part of her award, Jodie will present her research at the 2008 International Conference of Physics Students in Cracow, Poland and have all of her expenses paid by SPS. Jodie will also receive a $500 honorarium and a $500 award for her chapter of SPS. Read more about Jodie's award and her research here.
  • Honors is proud to introduce the members of the 2008-2009 Honors Student Council. Alex Hatch was selected as President, Dione Garlick as Executive Secretary, Muriel McGregor as Historian, Erin Whyte as Service Vice President, Hyrum Gillespie as Marketing Vice President, and Art Mahoney as Scholarship Vice President. Honors is sure to have another great year with these students at the helm!
  • Honors is also proud to introduce the 2008 Honors Teaching Fellows: Christen Allen, Darcy Stewart, Shantae Cooper, Jylisa Doney, Jessica Sorenson, Lynsie Daley, Kayla Woodring, Lenaye Howard, Taren McKenna, and Heather Johnson. These students are sure to make your Honors courses great!
  • Congratulations to Kelsey Hall, this semester's winner of the HSC's basket. Kelsey won all of these goodies by participating in the most Honors socials and service activities.
  • Congratulations to Luke Hanks who was awarded a scholarship under the Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation Program! His scholarship includes full tuition and fees, a book allowance, health insurance, and an annual stipend of approximately $25,000. Luke's scholarship also includes a paid internship and/or post-graduation employment with Ogden Air Logistics. Lukes scholarship will total slightly more than $75,000! Read more about Luke here.
  • Study abroad in Summer 2009 with Honors at the University of La Rioja in Spain (cradle of the Spanish language). This is a 6-week USU Honors faculty-led program from June 15th through July 31st.

    This program is open to students with at least one year of Spanish, so plan ahead to take the first classes this coming year (or take the placement test). This will also help students seeking a BA, which requires a foreign language.

  • Honors would like to recognize the efforts of Mary Heers' Honors 1330 class who raised money to purchase a bike for Sunday Ajalo through 88 Bikes for Uganda. To learn more about this program, click on Sunday's picture below.
  • The 33rd Annual "Last Lecture" was given by Dr. David Peak, a Professor in the Department of Physics. He was chosen by USU Honors students to give, what for him, would be his last lecture to students and his faculty peers. Dr. Peak a full professor who has had years of experience at USU, and has made a noteworthy contribution to the education and mentorship of undergraduates--in the classroom, the lab, and in the field.   • Honors is very proud to announce that all four of USU's Goldwater nominees have been recognized by the Goldwater Foundation. This is a first for Utah State! Tamara Jeppson and Jodie Tvedtnes have been recognized as Goldwater Scholars and Sydney Chamberlin and Cody Tramp were recognized as Honorable Mentions. Due to the change in email addresses within the university, it is imperative that you do this even if you have subscribed previously. 
  • May 2007 Honors graduate, Katherine Shakespeare, was recently featured in the Hard News Cafe for her work with Teach For America. Read about Katherine's experience here.

Honors Listserv

If you expect to receive notification about things like Honors early registration, Honors activities, and scholarship opportunities, you must be subscribed to the Honors Listserv. Click here to either subscribe or unsubscribe.

Honors Housing

Honors now has a floor in the new Living/Learning Community, just west of the Taggart Student Center. The floor is open to both incoming and continuing Honors students, and includes both shared and private rooms. Interested students should contact Shannon Jolley, Theme Housing Coordinator, at 797-8224 or shannon.jolley@usu.edu.

Honor Societies

Have you been invited to join a National Honor Society because of your high GPA? Are you looking for a society that will give you more opportunities to excel within your major?
